Schoolmarket  Boosts ebook

At the opening of the Beijing International Book Fair,  the largest publishing event in China, OverDrive, a leading global supplier to libraries and booksellers released updated statistics regarding the unprecedented demand in school markets worldwide for its global catalog of popular eBooks, audiobooks, music and video. Through the first eight months of 2011, OverDrive’s School Download Library service has grown 500 percent over 2010 and is now available to hundreds of thousands of students and staff in hundreds of schools in 15 countries around the world.

OverDrive is the supplier of more than 15,000 public library and powers digital collections at hundreds of schools, such as Zurich International School in Switzerland, Bonn International School in Germany, and schools in Belgium, China, India, Japan, Netherlands, UK, Thailand, Turkey, Canada and the United States.

eBooks as Pediatrician Diagnostic Tool

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announced this week the debut of an app developed by Impelsys for the Apple iPad that provides instant mobile access to the entire AAP eBook collection at .

A 2010 survey of pediatricians indicated that 23% already had an iPad and 60% owned iPhones, meaning the new app will reach an already large and still growing number of pediatricians in the US

Super Heroes Go Digital

DC comics, the largest English comic book publisher in the world, is relaunching its comic books in digital format. Their entire line of comics will be available to be purchased online alongside the release in print.

Releasing titles online the same day as the physical versions is a first for a major publisher and is meant to appeal to a younger public. Practically, it means that 52 comics will be getting new number one issues in the upcoming fall months.

These will be available through Apple devices as well as Android and Windows Phone 7. The DC comics app will run on ComiXology where comics will reside on users device and be able to be read offline.
