In 2021, the New York mayor, worried about dwindling natality rates in his city, decides to strike a big coup and artificially restore it.

Shrouded in secret, he convoked the responsible for the city’s electricity grid. His plan is to repeat the 1965 black out, hoping to have a sudden peak in birth rate 9 months later.

So, 9 months after his successful sabotage, he is anxiously monitoring the birth rate, where no change whatsoever appears.

Puzzled, he begins to enquire, with no TV, nowhere to go to and only romantic candle lights to see in the night, what had his citizen been doing instead of ‘enjoying each other’s company’ and producing myriads of babies?

Well, e-readers of all types, now ubiquitous, with a battery life of over 12 hours, successfully defeated the mayor’s plan as citizen preferred the cold glare of a screen with enhanced books and videos to the warmth of any embrace.
