Is this your first time doing JuNoWriMo?
Nope. I tried my hand at it last year and had a blast so I had to come back.
What is your JuNoWriMo novel about?
Death. Lots of death and how different people view it. Actually it’s about two serial killers.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Plotter. I need structure. I leave room for flexibility but I love my plans.
Favorite methods for collecting ideas & inspiration for your novel—mind mapping, Pinterest, creating soundtracks, etc.?
Pinterest. Talking to myself – I’m the best person to bounce ideas off of. I find words the best inspiration for more words.
Favorite time of day to write?
Afternoons. You rush around in the morning and you rush around at night and I find afternoons so…relaxing. Casual almost.
Word Processor or Pen and Paper?
Word Processor. I used to write by hand all the time but as a lefty, I couldn’t take the graphite and ink smudges.
Favorite way to beat writer’s block?
I don’t believe in writer’s block. There is always something to write. But when I’m feeling a little uninspired I read short stories – something in my genre – something that gets me in the mood.
What book/author inspired you to start writing?
I’m giving credit to Lois Duncan on this one. She was one of the first writers my mother introduced me to when I was first coming into my genre preferences and I fell in love with suspense and powerful leading women.
Favorite drinks/snacks for writing time?
It’s going to sound lame but I love drinking lemon water. It doesn’t distract me from letting my fingers fly across the keyboard. I usually don’t snack when I write but it’s usually crackers or chips.
If you could visit any world from any book, where would you go and what would you do?
That’s a horrible question to ask. I couldn’t possibly decide. Hmm…if I have to decide I guess I’ll say Neverland. It’s a small island with hardly any space between one adventure and another. There’s magic and wonder but also darkness and time airs on the side of childhood. There’s so much potential and no consequences. (I also love Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie to death. One of my favourite stories of all time).
What’s your favorite book/writing related quote?
